Mark at the Ball Park

Another department that we tend to take for granted, our parks and recreation make up an unappreciated portion of our unique way of life. While many recreational opportunities exist in nearby State Parks and land and also the great Chattahoochee National Forest, the Gilmer County Parks and Recreation Department offers opportunities for the county's youth to participate in team sports.

Team

Mark is committed to expanding and improving this department with careful fiscal conservancy. Mark voted in April 2008 (unsuccessfully) against a $150,000 contract to provide only the engineering services for a new park facility of 3 ball fields and a tennis complex. This vote was not against the facility, but against the enormous waste associated with the approach toward the project. The many thousands of dollars wasted here could and should be spent furthering the actual facilities and usage of the department.
